Screen is a program to run shells in the background and to have multiple tabs to easily switch between. It also allows to share a screen and look at it at the same time from different laptops. Run screen by typing screen. To reconnect to a screen in the background use screen -r or screen -x (shared, multiple users can open it).

Basic screen commands:

Ctrl-A d
Send screen into background. Everything in the screen will keep running.
Ctrl-A c
Create a new Tab in screen
Ctrl-A n
Go to next tab
Ctrl-A p
Go to previous tab
Ctrl-A <N>
Go to tab number <N>, this should be a number from 0 to 9.
Ctrl-A Shift-A
Rename current window
